How-To's and Game Reviews

Addams Family for the Amiga

Today, I'm going to give a quick reviews of "Addams Family" on the Amiga.

Even though the idea of an Addams Family game screams adventure game (perhaps in the vein of Day of the Tentacle where you can switch between the characters), instead the offering here is your standard platform game. I have no idea if you play any character later on - mainly because I couldn't honestly progress very far - but you start the game off as Gomez Addams.

This game is brutal. Timing is completely unforgiving, and often requires very quick movement through areas beyond your visible screen, leaving you in a situation where you will die the first few times until you can sort out the whole sequence beyond your field of vision. And in the "Mario" tradition, Gomez skids around everywhere whenever he needs to stop. How anyone can take one step, and then skip for the distance of 2 steps is quite incredible (and annoying as heck).

Audio is your standard affair, nothing spectacular, and the music is your standard Addams Family theme (the intro part) repeated over and over.

The graphics are fair - animation is very smooth. The controls are very responsive, which they need to be given how merciless the timing and sequences are.

Scores
graphics: 3/5
sound: 2/5
music: 2/5
gameplay: 2.5/5
overall: 2.5/5
